Laura Gompertz originally trained in Theatre Design at Nottingham Trent University. She has worked as a professional painter for many years exhibiting in the UK and Europe. Her figurative oil paintings and detailed pen and ink drawings bring attention to everyday things such as old china or cut red onions. Her work emerges from her feelings about these objects so they are more like personal statements rather than realistic representations.

Laura is currently working on a series of paintings of family china. These loved items conjure up home through the generations, from her grandparents’ painted bone china to her children’s favourite jug.

Her theatre design work spans from Ayckbourn premieres to touring shows. More recently she has also worked as an award-winning interior designer.
