John Joseph Sheehy, born in County Kerry, is an instinctual artist. From a life troubled by homelessness, extreme hardship and collapse he was rescued by art, painting at a creativity centre within the mental health system. Art – painting, poetry music – are his ballast for navigating the world. Sheehy’s paintings range between portraits, landscapes and the purely abstract. He creates with a sense of urgency, immersed in the act of making and its therapeutic benefits.
